Support That Helps Businesses Thrive
About Underdog Crew Studios
Empowering neurodiverse youth through creativity, community, and opportunity.
The Story Behind Underdog Crew Studios
Underdog Crew Studios is a Colchester-based charity dedicated to empowering neurodiverse and underrepresented young people aged 11–25 through film, media and the creative arts. Created in response to shrinking SEND budgets and limited support for autistic and marginalised youth, the organisation provides a safe, nurturing 400 sq ft innovation hub where young people can build confidence, develop skills and find purpose. Participants engage in filmmaking, TV production, digital design, entrepreneurship, and personal development within a flexible, wellbeing-focused environment.
Founded by award-winning autistic filmmaker Dom Morgan, the charity blends creative training with emotional support, free meals and long-term mentorship. Its programmes include AQA-accredited training, showreel creation, and real employment opportunities—supported by strong industry partnerships that place young adults in paid roles across the film and media sector.
Recognised as a Mayor’s Charity of Choice and BBC Make A Difference Award winner, Underdog Crew has secured over £250,000 in funding. SNCS continues to support their growth through co-delivered entrepreneurship programmes and strategic development.
Challenges
Understanding the Client’s Key Pain Points
Underdog Crew Studios operates within a challenging landscape, supporting neurodiverse young adults who often struggle to access traditional employment. Many face barriers in typical workplaces, leaving them reliant on Universal Credit or attempting self-employment without the support needed to succeed. Although 1 in 5 entrepreneurs are neurodiverse, many hide this due to stigma and fears of reduced opportunities.
These issues are intensified by shrinking SEND budgets and under-resourced schools, which leave young people without tailored guidance, practical pathways or emotional support. As a not-for-profit delivering most programmes free of charge, Underdog Crew Studios also faces ongoing pressure to secure consistent funding. Grant opportunities have become increasingly competitive, making it difficult to maintain operations as demand grows.
To ensure long-term stability, the organisation needed a clear go-to-market strategy and sustainable revenue streams, including paid programmes, workshops, sponsorships and partnerships. Without these foundations, financial uncertainty threatened their ability to continue delivering life-changing opportunities for neurodiverse and marginalised young people.

Local Impact
Sentrepreneurs needed a unified, accessible ecosystem to support neurodivergent and SEND adults into entrepreneurship.
SNCS built the full infrastructure—brand identity, custom platform, website, onboarding journey, and mentor-matching system. This created a cohesive, inclusive environment that improves confidence, engagement, and long-term pathways into employment and self-employment across Essex.

Empowered Starts
SNCS worked with Reed in Partnership on their self-employment scheme, helping participants grow and scale their businesses with a clear pathway off Universal Credit.
Through tailored training, hands-on coaching and streamlined reporting, SNCS accelerated progress, improved business viability, and supported individuals in rebuilding financial independence and sustainable self-employment.

Growing Innovation
Green Futures Biofuel needed market validation, investor readiness, and support developing its off-grid vertical farming system.
SNCS delivered commercial strategy, prototype development, SEIS/EIS preparation, and research partnerships—helping secure over £350,000 in funding and validating the technology through national trials. This work led to successful market entry and acquisition.
